Owner Recommendation

Vivid and Versatile

Velvia 100 takes the legendary saturation and contrast of Velvia 50 and adds a crucial ingredient: an extra stop of speed that transforms it from a tripod-bound specialist into a genuinely handholdable general-purpose slide film. The color palette is slightly different from Velvia 50 — marginally less extreme in its saturation, with a touch more neutrality in the greens and a slightly more forgiving contrast curve — but it is still unmistakably Velvia: vivid, intense, and capable of producing images that look more real than reality. At ISO 100, you can handhold in daylight with confidence, which opens up street photography, travel work, and handheld landscape shooting to the Velvia aesthetic for the first time. The finer grain of the ISO 100 emulsion also means that fine detail is preserved even in high-contrast scenes where slower films might struggle with subject motion. For photographers who love the Velvia look but find ISO 50 too restrictive for their shooting style, Velvia 100 is the answer — all the intensity, none of the tripod. We recommend it for travel and landscape photographers who want slide film saturation with practical handheld usability, and for anyone who has tried Velvia 50 and wished it were just a little more flexible in the field. It is also an excellent entry point into slide film for photographers who are curious about reversal stocks but intimidated by Velvia 50's reputation for demanding perfection.
