Owner Recommendation

Slow and Beautiful

PAN F PLUS on 120 format is, quite simply, one of the smoothest, most detailed film experiences available to the medium format photographer. Take a film already famous for its virtual absence of grain, spread it across a negative four times the area of 35mm, and the result is an image quality that has to be seen to be believed. Prints from PAN F 120 negatives have a surface quality more akin to a contact print from a large format negative than to an enlargement from a medium format roll — the tonality is seamless, the detail is exhaustive, and there is a luminous depth to the image that makes you want to keep looking. This is not a film for casual handheld shooting — at ISO 50 you will need good light, a steady hand or a tripod, and the patience to meter carefully — but for the photographer who is willing to work within its parameters, PAN F 120 rewards the effort with images of extraordinary beauty and technical perfection. We recommend it for landscape photographers working on a tripod in beautiful light, for portrait photographers who want a clean, classic look with maximum detail, and for anyone who wants to see what their medium format camera is truly capable of when the limiting factor is no longer the film.
