Owner Recommendation

Ortho Sheet

ORTHO PLUS sheet film is the ultimate expression of orthochromatic photography: the unique spectral response of the emulsion, the control of large format, and the magic of developing by inspection under a red safelight — all combined in a workflow that feels more like alchemy than photography. Loading holders in the dark, composing on the ground glass, exposing individual sheets, and then watching the image appear in the tray under that dim red glow is one of the most satisfying experiences available to the analog photographer. The large format negative captures the distinctive orthochromatic look — bright skies, dark reds, luminous skin — with a level of detail and tonal subtlety that smaller formats cannot approach. Alternative-process printers will find ORTHO sheet film an excellent starting point for cyanotypes, Van Dyke browns, and other UV-sensitive contact printing processes, as the contrast and density of the negatives can be tailored through development to match specific process requirements. This is a film for photographers who are already comfortable with large format and are looking for something genuinely different — a visual language from the nineteenth century, spoken with twenty-first-century intent.
