HP5 PLUS is the film against which all other 400-speed black-and-white films are measured, and it has held that position for decades through a combination of versatility, reliability, and sheer aesthetic quality that no competitor has quite managed to match. The grain is classic and present — not as fine as a modern Delta or T-grain emulsion, but beautifully structured in a way that adds texture and depth rather than distraction.
