Owner Recommendation

Medium Format Classic

FP4 PLUS on 120 format produces some of the most beautiful black-and-white images we have ever seen come out of a medium format camera. The already-legendary tonal smoothness of FP4 is elevated to something approaching the transcendental when spread across a 6×6 or 6×7 negative — highlights glow without blowing, shadows recede without blocking up, and midtones have a luminous, almost three-dimensional quality that makes you want to reach into the frame and touch the textures. Grain is essentially a non-issue: at any normal print size from a medium format FP4 negative, what you see is pure tonality, pure detail, and the unmistakable signature of a film that was designed for photographers who care deeply about the quality of their prints. We particularly recommend FP4 120 for portrait and landscape work where nuance matters — the way a catchlight transitions into a shadow, the way distant hills separate from the sky, the way fabric textures read in soft window light. It pairs beautifully with classic medium format glass, and the combination of a well-exposed FP4 negative and a carefully made fiber print is one of the enduring pleasures of analog photography. Take your time with this film. It rewards patience.
