Owner Recommendation

Color Perfection

EKTAR 100 is Kodak's answer to the question: how much color, sharpness, and detail can you possibly squeeze out of a color negative film? The answer turns out to be quite a lot. EKTAR delivers the finest grain structure of any color negative film in our catalog — finer than some slide films — and a color saturation that borders on reversal-film intensity while retaining the exposure latitude of a negative stock. Reds are deep and passionate, blues are rich without tipping into cyan, and greens have a vibrancy that makes landscape and nature photography feel almost three-dimensional. The trade-off is that EKTAR demands more from the photographer than a more forgiving film like Portra or Gold: it wants accurate metering, it does not love mixed lighting, and skin tones can skew slightly magenta if you are not careful with exposure and filtration. But when you nail it — and you will, with practice — EKTAR produces images that are difficult to distinguish from medium format in their detail and impact. We recommend it for landscape photographers, travel photographers who want their destinations to look as vivid as they felt, and anyone who has ever looked at a slide on a light table and wished they could get that kind of saturation without giving up the practical advantages of a negative film. Meter for the midtones, protect your highlights, and let EKTAR do the rest.
