Owner Recommendation

Fine Grain 120

EKTAPAN 100 on 120 is a medium format photographer's clean slate — a film so technically capable that it essentially removes grain from the list of things you need to think about. At normal enlargement sizes from a 6×7 negative, grain is functionally nonexistent, leaving you with nothing but tonality, detail, and your own compositional choices to carry the image. This makes it an exceptional choice for landscape photography where fine detail in distant foliage and rock textures matters, for architectural studies where straight lines and surface textures need to read clearly, and for any project destined for large-scale printing. The neutral tonal palette means your images will have a timeless quality — they will not look specifically like 1965 or 1985 or 2025, which can be an advantage when you want the content of the photograph to transcend its technical origins. We particularly appreciate how well EKTAPAN 100 scans on modern equipment: the grain is so fine that even consumer-grade scanners can extract essentially all the information the negative contains. If you are a medium format photographer who values resolution, clarity, and a clean aesthetic, this film deserves a place in your kit alongside your more characterful stocks.
