Owner Recommendation

Pro Portrait

EKTACOLOR PRO 160 is PORTRA's slightly cooler, more analytical sibling — a professional-grade 160-speed color negative film designed for studio and controlled-light environments where color accuracy is paramount. Where PORTRA 160 gently warms skin tones, EKTACOLOR PRO 160 renders them with clinical neutrality, making it the preferred choice for fashion and beauty photographers who need garments, makeup, and skin to reproduce exactly as seen by the eye. The grain structure is comparable to PORTRA — essentially invisible at normal magnifications — and the contrast curve is slightly more linear, giving you a cleaner starting point for post-processing and retouching. Dynamic range is excellent, holding detail in both wedding-dress whites and tuxedo blacks within the same frame, which is the kind of real-world performance that separates professional films from consumer stocks. In mixed or available light, the cooler bias can read as more modern and editorial compared to PORTRA's timeless warmth — a subtle distinction, but one that art directors notice. We recommend it for photographers working in controlled conditions who want maximum flexibility in post, and for anyone who finds PORTRA just slightly too warm for their taste. It pairs beautifully with strobes and natural window light alike.
